“Hold the bridge for 2 or 3 days”

Arnhem - Market Garden

A bridge too far: from 17 to 25 September 1944 the Allied armies dropped three airborne divisions behind German lines to secure a bridgehead over the Rhine River and finish WW2 before Christmas. After 9 days of fierce fighting, the 1st Airborne troops were withdrawn from their last bridgehead on the north side of the Rhine in Oosterbeek. Understand the last German victory of the war and why this Allied offensive was doomed from the start.

"IT IS ALL A QUESTION OF BRIDGES"
